OUGD404 - The Anatomy of Type - Part 1

Out of the 5 Fonts that my partner had collected for me to identify:
Braggadocio - Designed by W.A. Wodley. 1930.

Letter Gothic - Roger Roberson. 1962.
Perpetua - Eric Gill. 1928.
Chalk duster - Apple Computer Inc. 2008.
Futura - Paul Renner. 1927.

We had to focus on just one of the above and do further research about what the font is used for, where it originates from and what it's influences were etc.
From the above list I have chosen Futura as I found it the most easily identifiable without having to use the program Identifont.

After Identifying Futura, I found the following information;

Futura was designed in 1927 by Paul Renner.
The Design for Futura is based upon the bauhaus.

Displaying a fully modernist typeface with lack of detail in properties such as ornamentation, serif, swashes or ligatures.

'First Presented by the Bauer Type foundry in 1928, Futura is commonly considered the major typeface
development to come out of the constructivist orientation of the Bauhaus movement In Germany.'
'Paul Renner sketched the original drawings and based them loosely on the simple forms of circle, triangle and square. The design office at Bauer assisted him in turning these geometric forms into a sturdy, functioning type family, and over time, Renner made changes to make the Futura fonts even more legible. Its long ascenders and descenders benefit from generous line spacing. The range of weights and styles make it a versatile family. Futura is timelessly modern; in 1928 it was striking, tasteful, radical - and today it continues to be a popular typographic choice to express strength, elegance, and conceptual clarity.'

'The font is also used extensively in advertisements and logos, notably by IKEA (until 2010), VolkswagenRoyal Dutch Shell and HP in their print ads.'
