OUGD504: Design for print - Studio brief 01 research.

Primary and secondary research.
Commercial cost and college costs of the following print processes:

1. Inkjet Printing.
2. Laser printing.
3. Screen printing.
4. Lino printing.
5. Mono printing.
6. Foil blocking.
7. Flocking.
8. Laser cut.
9. Embossing.
10. Laser cutting.

1. Inkjet printing.

- Inkjet printing is known as being relatively cheap, as Inkjet printers are amongst the cheapest to purchase. However they are not as efficient as the laser printer, needing the cartridges to be changed often and running much slower.

2. Laser printing.

Commercial laser printing did used to be expensive, however prices of laser printers have plummeted in the past few years and they are must faster at printing large runs than inkjet printers.

3. Screen printing.

Screen printing is a good value print at college, Unlike using the 'Digital dungeon' where It can cost up to £14 for prints (A0) you can create prints of this size at a fraction of a cost. The elements that add up to the total cost of screen printing are; Price of screen (low cost), Determined by size, Price of Ink (Determined by amount), and price of stock you choose to print upon. Students are therefore able to print approx 5 times the amount of prints they would on a laser/inkjet printer.

4. Lino printing.
