OUGD504: Design for print and web/studio brief 3 - Proposed web.

Today I brainstormed my proposed web idea, I needed to think of something that would be useful, beneficial and appropriate for the concept of my canteen:

Canteen concept:

Full stop.
International canteen.

An international Canteen in which people travelling through U.K airports can visit and enjoy eating filling food, from a range of countries in a casual dining experience.

Travellers can enjoy both hold and cold, starters (small plates), main courses, and desserts from England, Germany, Mexico, Spain and Italy. Like other food establishments such as Nando's users of the restaurant are able to come in and sit at benches (casual dining) look at menus and then visit the till point where they both order and pay for their food at this point. (Airport eateries often get very busy and so this is the most efficient way to police payment). Customers only have to wait a short amount of time before they are served there food due to a select range of hot dishes, and a number of cold which would be pre made.

Staff then deliver food to the tables in insulated boxes/wrappers/brown bags to that the customer can enjoy their food inside the canteen at the benches, or if they have ordered food which they would like to take elsewhere such as a sandwhich and pastry, can easily be transported.

Audience and purpose:

I started to think about who the audience of the website would be, when travelling it is unlikely that customers would pre read any information online about airport eateries, and so, although I would not completely rule them out, the main audience/purpose would have to be something completely different.

I thought about the website as a platform of promotion, who would it need to be promoted towards? Then I came up with the idea of promoting the website to possible franchises to begin the building of the business, to help its growth. Investors such as different airports around the country, or even internationally.

What would they want to see on the website?

Possible pages and subjects could be:
- About the company/style of eating etc.
- An online menu to see what is currently being sold.
- A contact us page - including form for franchise enquiries?
- Customer testimonials so that possible investors can see how successful the company is and how it is growing?

- If the idea of the full stop canteen were to grow internationally, could the menu be interchangeable to include dishes from the native country in which it is located.

- Putting a menu online could be good for those who have a while to spend in the airport for example those on connecting flights and would like to be able to see what they can eat before arrival.

- For potential investors have a section where they can plan to visit a canteen for an in person visit.

- Potential gallery page for investors to see different franchises.

Tone:

Tone of restaurant needs to be professional, however also, friendly and persuasive.

Design:

Use header designs on menu and labels to influence the nav bar design on the website?

Use branding across printed material as an influence for the web design - Colour, font choice etc.

- Design to work on pc, tablet and mobile.

App ideas:

- Have possible ability for customers to order food for a certain time, who don't have much time to spend in the airport? could be useful for frequent flyers such as business men. Pay when you order to make sure it is not the company who loose out if the customer doesn't pick up the food.
- Good for those who might want to order cold food to take onboard flights.

- Have the ability to vote for meals which people enjoyed the most allowing the company to constantly improve their menu.

- View menu on app.

- View at what airports the canteen exists.

- allow to write and view customer testimonials.

- Upload picture/tag yourself at the restaurant.
